Mythological Connection
Names with Greek Mythological stories attached
Our newly built homes are being given the names of various Greek Gods & Goddesses which all have the Greek Mythological stories attached.
Rhea is the daughter of the primeval forces of Greek mythology, Uranus, the sky, and
Gaia, the Earth. Rhea is the wife of her brother Cronus and is called the mother of the
gods because she gave birth to the Olympians, Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon
and Zeus.
Cronus was fearful of his children, so he swallowed them, but when Zeus was born, the sixth,
child, Rhea fled to the mountains of Arkadia on Crete and hid baby Zeus from her husband,
presenting him instead with a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes. Zeus was kept hidden and
was raised on goat's milk from his pet goat, Amalthea, and the honey from the bees.
When Zeus grew up, he destroyed Cronus with Rhea's help.
Rhea is known as the Great Mother and was worshipped as the mother of the gods and
was closely identified with the Asian goddess Kybele.
